CALL FOR NEW BOARD MEMBERS FOR THE
HUNTER WOMEN'S DOMESTIC VIOLENCE COURT ADVOCACY SERVICE
The Board of Management of Newcastle Women’s Domestic Violence Court Advocacy Service (NWDVCAS) is seeking two new Board members for 2026. NWDVCAS is a locally based independent Service, funded by Legal Aid. It aims to provide women and children who are experiencing domestic violence with support, advocacy, referral and information as they negotiate the legal system and to help put an end to violence. (For further information, visit nwdvcas.org.au). The NWDVCAS Board of Management is responsible for the overall governance, management and strategic direction of the Service, as well as for delivery of accountable performance in accordance with the Service’s goals and objectives. Its role is to create and approve major core policies that outline the Service’s mission values, vision and structure. Its main tasks include legal and financial accountability, strategic vision and objectives, and advocacy. The NWDVCAS Board of Management is comprised of elected individuals, generally drawn from the local community, and who have relevant qualifications and/or experience in the specific focus area of the Service or in governance. All Board members give their time in a voluntary capacity. The NWDVCAS Board of Management meets bi-monthly from February-December (AGM). Meetings are held in the NWDVCAS office, Hamilton, at 5pm on the second Tuesday of these months. The Board is seeking to fill two Board vacancies for 2026. We would like to hear from any person who is familiar with this area of work and/or governance, and who is interested in becoming a Board member. For further information, please email the Chairperson of the Board, Dr Toni Stephens at nwdvcasboard@nwdvcas.org.au.
