NSW Regional Women Lawyers - end of year canapes and drinks - Thursday 5 December 2024

NSW Regional Women Lawyers is holding their end of year canapes and drinks at Bartholomews in Newcastle on Thursday 5 December 2024 at 6.30pm.

Guest speaker is Newcastle based Barrister and Public Defender Elizabeth McLaughlin speaking about going to the bar as a regional woman lawyer and equity issues facing women at the bar.

NSW Mental Health Review Tribunal - seeking members for Tribunal Panel

The NSW Mental Health Review Tribunal is seeking legal members in the Central Coast to Hunter Valley region. Legal members of the Tribunal must be qualified and admitted as an Australian lawyer (for a minimum of 7 years) and hold a current practising certificate or Bar admission.

Sessional members sit on Tribunal panels and review the situation of persons with a mental illness within the framework of the NSW Mental Health Act 2007 (the Act) and the Mental Health and Cognitive Impairment Forensic Provisions Act 2020 and make appropriate determinations and orders. Hearings are held both remotely from their Sydney-based premises as well as face-to-face in facilities.

They are seeking legal members to attend at Morisset Hospital, Mater Calgary Hospital, John Hunter Hospital, Gosford Hospital and Wyong Hospital. They ask for a minimum availability of one sitting per month. Additional opportunities may be available via remote connection or should the member be happy to travel to the greater Sydney area.
